Gardening: Day 1

With my first day off from school, I was determined to make the front of the house presentable before Easter. After all the reading I have done on gardening, I was going to put my skills to the test. We went to Home Depot to buy top soil, peat moss, and garden soil (same as top soil but a little more money). I held off on buying compost until I start my veggie garden.

Then we went to a nearby nursery to buy flats of Pansies. I love these flowers.

BEFORE: The house previously had wood chips for mulch and not only did we dislike the way they look, but they attract bugs. First I had rake and bag up all these old wood chips. I used a rake, and a snow shovel. It took me a good 3 hours to get it all out, bagged and then I added some new top soil and mixed that in. Top soil reaks!

AFTER: I was trying be all primp and proper about it and then finally I got fed up and used my hands which is the most efficient. I was surprised considering I am anti bugs and dirt. I raked the soil into a "raised bed". Then one by one, I placed each plant into the bed and patted it firmly.

Pansies all in a row. I noticed we had alot of worms which is good.

Sighhh My hard work pays off in the end.

This picture is for you Tiff. Chives that I dug up. You're right. They are pretty pungent.

Who would've thought that our house looked like this last week.

Tomorrow, I am going to work on the sides of the house and around the shed.
