We have a cucumber (almost)

I pinched the flowers on the lower portion of the plant to promote this one. It's so cute. It's barely a gherkin.





The grape tomatoes are about 1.5" and getting big. The plants are also getting really big.

Saturday/Sunday garden update

Had some significant tomato growthage. These are my grape tomatoes. They are as thick as my index finger but I just took a really up close shot of them.


Another zucchini flower.


Lettuce. I told ya I weeded! Lettuce is really easy to grow but a real pain to wash to eat. It doesn't taste any better than supermarket bought lettuce. I don't know if I'll do this again next year. I'll keep it in a planter next year. Towards the back is the watermelon plant. It's getting there but I doubt we'll get any watermelons.


I found an egg shell that was a deep shade of aqua.


My cosmos bloomed a few days ago. All that work for one dinky flower. Good thing they sow themselves because next year I won't show them indoors again. It was too much work and the ones outside on my window box are doing just as well.


I should have known cosmos weren't window box type flowers. They make better borders or large patches.

Thursday/Friday Garden update

These pictures are from the same day I found my freakozoid mutant pea. On Thursday and Friday, my MOH came down to visit me. It was so nice just to spend some time chit chatting with her. Here I am showing her my garden.

The cucumber has begun to climb and I have a flower. I wonder if I should pinch it off to allow it to store energy for future cucumbers.


I sent her packing with some peas along with a tomato and basil plant to put in her apartment.


Squash or Gourd is beginning to climb. I am hoping to created a Christmas tree effect when it climbs the pole.


"The Prince" (okra) has gotten the tallest of all my okra. Must of been the special attention I gave it.


The Peach Tree has grown fuller. I wonder if this needs to be pruned.

Eggplants


Chili peppers are getting flowers too!

During yesterday's harvest, I found a freakozoid mutant of a sugar snap pea. It was HUGE.

Finally, some action! I found a zucchini flower yesterday which is a good sign because where there are flowers will soon come veggie! The only thing is that there needs to be more than one flower. The insects have to get in there and pollinate; otherwise, there will be no veggie.



I had a ton of peas after the rain.


My whatever this is is growing fast. I have to train it to climb up.


My eggplant also doubled in size after the rain.


My red chili peppers are a good 7" tall now. The tomato plants provided shade and they are growing much better than anywhere else in the yard. Next year I will organize all my plants so they have some shade and protection.

Garden update 6-16-07

My eggplant plants have been getting bigger which is good. I was a little worried that they wouldn't grow. I tried mixing the soil around it and added more compost.


My pirella leaves and zucchinis are overcrowding each other. I really don't know what to do. I just pick the leaves and cook them with my other veggies and eat it.


I pruned the tomato plants to encourage the growth of the tomatos and not the leaves.

Garden pics 6-9-07

I have been too busy to make detailed updates on my garden, so here are a bunch of pics of recent changes. Today, I finally planted everything that was in a cup or sitting on our deck. It's finally all done now!

Now that my okra plants are tall enough to withstand some nibbling, I put them into the ground.

Lettuce-I'll have to thin them soon, but it's so hard to just throw them away after all that work!


2 more tomato planters that I plan on giving friends.


My basil was getting way too big for the tray, so I put them into containers. I plan on putting them in my kitchen.


Peas are coming along nicely.


I forgot to blog about our first harvest of the peas.
