I got carded...

...for buying spray paint at Home Depot. The sales clerk asked to see ID because "You have to be 18 to buy spray paint." I handed her my ID and she said, "Oh, wow! You look like you're 17! That's a good thing for when you're older." Well, thanks! Now gimme my spray paint so I can go home and get high!

I needed the spray paint to paint this old love seat. My sister in law was ready to toss this love seat. Since our house is pretty much a collaboration of good will, we took it and gave it a new finish with some spray paint.







I have to go back and get more spray paint because 1 can wasn't enough. Maybe I'll bring my mom this time!

It's Wabbit Season

Early that day, we saw a stray cat got after this little bunny. Normally, I don't care for bunnies (because they eat my veggies) but when you see an animal being attacked, you cannot help but react. Keith ran after it and scared the cat away, but the bunny already got clawed pretty well. At that point, I wanted to tell him to let nature take it's course because now the bunny will just suffer while alive. We wrapped it up in a t-shirt and called animal rescue. The bunny just looked tired and scared. A few minutes later, we went back to the bucket and the bunny had already jumped out and went away. Animal rescue called back saying that it probably won't make it because cats carry a lot of bacteria in their mouths, but they would come pick it up if we saw it again.

Keith spent the day laying more peat moss down on the rest of the landscaping. He also started to install the sprinkler system around the yard.

I finished painting the living room and just took it easy. I separated some of the seedlings and put them into individual pots to allow them to grow. I'm giving many of them away to my neighbors because I have so many.

Repainting the Living Room

Brand: Behr, Interior, Semi-Gloss from Home Depot
Color: "Wicker" by Valspar (from Lowe's)
Cost: $24
Time: Currently 5 hours

In case you are wondering, I bought Behr paint (sold at HD) because it's the only brand I've used before, so I stuck with what I knew. However, the color is from a brand that Lowe's carries, so I took a swatch and had HD color match it. Taupe comes in a bazillion choices, but I went with "Wicker" simply because it was my first gut choice while we were in Lowe's one day.

Since the house is in disarray anyway, I decided to take advantage of this opportunity and repaint the living room. I was never very satisfied with the first color we chose. It was a hasty move to get the house painted before our house warming party nearly 2 years ago and the walls still need a second coat. Every time I flip through Restoration Hardware or HGTV, I regret not painting it a color I wanted. I'm so happy with this color choice!

Now, let's reminisce, shall we?

When we bought the house.

Today. The camera isn't really capturing the true color and it's blurry, but you get the idea.


I love it because it really makes the moulding pop with the white.

I'm very happy with the color choice. It's in the same family as the previous color but many shades darker. It dresses the walls much more in my opinion. I don't think I'm going to paint the wall along the stairs and hallway. I like that they are lighter in the previous color and makes it seem brighter.

Our Garden Island

Cost: $32.00 + 3 bottles of iced tea
Time: ~ 6 hours



Keith and I brought home another addition to our dear little garden. We decided that it deserved its only little home in our yard. I wanted a "Paisley" shaped island so we drew the shape out by laying a hose down first.



Then Keith cut the shape out with a flat spade and then he tilled all the dirt/grass into pieces.



He raked it through and planted the tree where I liked it.



I went through and hand picked all the large clumps of grass out of it.



Then we added 6 bags of top soil.



Then on top of the top soil, we added a layer of peat moss to retain moisture.



Water thoroughly to keep the peat moss from blowing away. I transplanted some daffodils.



And added some other flowers and seeds.



Here it is from the other side. I started some poppy seeds here.



And we occasionally played with our neighbor's dog Teddy.



Keith also laid peat moss down around the house.

Then, the girls helped me water all my plants.

Grow For Me

Yesterday, I added some plants to the side garden. My "vision" is for all these plants to grow in nice and full this summer. This is the worst part because everything looks so puny and garden magazines always have these full, lush, mature gardens and makes you feel like a failure. When they get established, I'll surround them with peat moss to retain moisture.



Here is another view. I forgot I started some snow and sugar snap peas along the fence. I also started some perennial sweet peas to give it some color and to give us a little privacy when they grow up the fence. I also had a ton of Irises, so I seperated them and replanted them in different areas of the yard to "fill in the voids".


My new addition. Pink ranunculus.


I planted some store started strawberries and my zucchini outside. I fenced them in for the time being because something was eating my strawberries. I plan on adding some marigolds and petunias along the front for aesthetic purposes.


Mr. SP woke up really early and finished the top soil up spreading it around the back side of the yard.

He bought me two surprises - this little maple tree.


And this super skinny hose which I can remove and walk around with. It's really light.

If you ever have to do this or you've hired someone to renovate your home, do yourself a favor and drape EVERYTHING or move it into a sealed room. Because if you don't, you'll have dust EVERYWHERE and in places you never knew! It's so overwhelming that I hired someone to help me clean the house in a few weeks.
