Happy Easter! Day 13

I know I skipped Day 12, but nothing of signfigance happened except that it snowed, so my peas outside are probably done for. I'll have to replant some more. It's good to know atleast that they are doing well indoors and grow fast when the soil is warm. I went outside and I noticed we had some cucumber plants!

Eggplant has finally come up. Moving them to my warmer office must have helped.

Day 11 Petting your Plant

In order to get your plants to grow thick and hearty, you're supposed to pet them twice a day. You can also use a piece of cardboard if you don't want to use your fingers. Or have a fan on low blowing at your seedlings.


The sugar snap peas are getting taller and thick.


The Cherry Tomato seeds that I planted for my friend's daugther came up last night. It only took 5 days compared to the 7 days the Roma Tomatos took. Perhaps it has to do with the vermiculite.


I bought Peonies at the end of last summer because they were 50% off. I never had the chance to plant them and I thought they might have died by now. I went outside today and they have already started to come up. I am going to put them into the ground asap.

My eggplant is still really slow. I read that it has to be really warm to germinate so I moved the plants into our bedroom which is alot warmer. The next few days are supposed to be freezing cold.

Day 10

The Bright Cosmos are all germinating. I read that this a reliable flower for gardeners.


Today the sugar snap peas I planted for my friend's daughter came up! They are very thick numbs. With the rain, I am sure the ones I have outside aren't going to make it if it's freezing this weekend. I think I'll do more of these in a planter for the deck.



The mesclun salad is really coming up tall.

Day 9

The chilli pepper are doing well. Everything is starting to surface now.


This was the biggest surprise. Yesterday, it was just surfacing and today it was poking through the saran wrap. This is the bright cosmos that I planted for my friend's daughter.

Day 8 - Red Hot Chilli Peppers!!!

Finally, my chilli peppers have germinated. It could just be a coincidence, but I wonder if it has anything to do with me fingering the soil.



Grape Tomatoes Day 4 after germination: It went 10 to 23 seedlings today. I am going to have to give some away.


Roma Tomatoes Day 2: There were 13 yesterday and 32 seedlings today.


As you can see, the seedlings are "over reaching" because I was at work and wasn't able to rotate them. They are reaching towards the sunlight which also means I am not giving them enough light. Tomorrow I'll have to get some extra lamps from work and use those.

Mesclun Salad Day 4: This stuff grows like grass!


Bright Cosmos: I planted this for my friend's 5 year old daughter. It's already beginning to germinate. It's a bright orange flower.

I just couldn't help myself and added eggs to my shed.




Centerpiece ideas
It has been said that you should only put on the table what you can eat. Keith and I were in the King of Prussia Mall; the second largest mall in the U.S. after the Mall of America, and there was this Easter setup sponspored by Crate & Barrel. Being the photo fanatic that I am, I whipped out my camera. I know we've seen candy buffets before, but is anyone using candy as a wedding centerpiece?

Day 7: We have Roma Tomatoes

Here's what everything looks like this morning:

I was a little worried about my tomato plants. I fingered the soil to loosen it a bit because I was afraid the lady at the nursery was right about top soil being "too heavy". Look! Seedlings sprouting up everywhere! About 13 that have actually grown above soil level.


Basil: Day 7 (4th day after germination) Still going strong and starting to lean towards the sun, so I have been rotating it. That keeps the plants from overreaching and getting long and skinny.


Grape Tomatoes Day 7 (3rd day after germination) As soon as I took the plastic wrap off, they sprouted and got have tall. There are 10 seedlings thus far.


Mesclun salad mix Day 3. They weren't kidding about how rewarding this would be. Mid summer, I'll grow another batch so we have more through the Fall. I am so excited!


The eggplant and bell pepper have been slow to germinate. I don't know what it is. It could be perhaps that I packed some trays tighter than others. The red chilli pepper are showing no signs of germination. I tried fingering the soil as well so we'll see if that helps.

It seems it rained last night so I'll have to hold off on forming my rows of garden beds. My zuchinni, cucumber, snow peas and sugar snap peas seem to be okay. By okay, I mean no squirrel or rabbit has dug it up to eat yet. The only thing I noticed was the neighbors cat is walking on the garden bed because I see these medium sized foot prints.

Day 6: We have grape tomatoes and lettuce!

I checked yesterday and didn't see anything, but suddenly today, the grape tomato plants have really sprouted.


To my surprise, our mesclun salad mix has also already germinated. It's been less than 2 days!


Basil (3 days of growth) There's lots now! I counted 63 seedlings compared to yesterday's 29!

Day 5 continued..

I went to bedroom to get changed and what do I see outside our window? The girls next door were standing under our sprinkler with umbrellas. How precious! Of course I ran and got the camera to take a picture.


I was doing a search for garden tags and found these from Ina Garten. Coconut frosting (yuck) with pansies. How cute! I love the Barefoot Contessa.
